ANOTHER WEEKEND STORM?

We are paying attention to another forecasted Sunday storm. Please look for another email from the church on Saturday morning for updates either confirming the church and our annual meeting will continue as planned OR an alternate plan. PLEASE check your email/the church website/our Facebook page, or call the office at 401.624.4611, before leaving for church Sunday morning.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2026

The prophet tells us what God requires of us: to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with God. Some are easier than others, do we really have to do all three? And if the answer is yes, then how? Micah gives us the to-do list; it’s up to us to check the boxes. Communion will be celebrated. Special music offered by Nicole Oriol. Celebration of new members.

FEBRUARY 1, 2026, RESCHEDULED - ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL BUSINESS MEETING

Please join us for our Annual Meeting immediately following worship in the Upper Hall. If you would like to bring an entree, an appetizer, chips, or desserts to share it would be appreciated! Remember- we are a nut-free facility! More information to follow.

WORRIED ABOUT FOOD OR KNOW OF SOMEONE WHO COULD USE SOME HELP?

We understand that not everyone who needs food can access a food bank because of the distance or limited hours and days they are open. In a Sakonnet Times article about our Thanksgiving Baskets, it was mentioned that we had started working on our next project—a place where neighbors can share with and receive from each other. That led to requests for more information from congregants and neighbors, along with offers of time and money. The Trustees and a leader of our ACTS Thrift Store joined the discussion. Other churches shared how they are doing similar work. This past Sunday morning, those entering through the north entrance might have noticed the results: The Amicable Cares - Kindness Cabinet.

On Sunday, January 18th, during worship, we will accept single-item donations. This initial stock of items for the Cabinet will be blessed. After that, the Kindness Cabinet will be open at any time for items to be received or taken as needed. If you have ideas on how to best advertise this resource to our neighbors, please call and leave a message on our church office phone. Click here for more information.

In addition to our Amicable Cares – Kindness Cabinet there are other Community Food Pantries in the area to make sure all our neighbors have the food they need to be healthy and active. Food pantries provide an abundance of food to the people of Southeastern Massachusetts. Click on this link for more Food Resources.

DO YOU LOVE TO SING?

Join us for the Once in a While Choir on February 8, 2026, at 9AM!

This is an especially good opportunity to try singing with the choir with a commitment of just one Sunday morning. All ages and abilities are welcome to lend your voice! We will meet at 9:00 am and put together a piece together that we will sing during church that same day. For this first meeting we will sing “Goodness Of God.” You can listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0FBb6hnwTo

BECOME A SUNDAY MORNING GREETER

Greeting friends and new faces at our sanctuary doors at the start of Sunday morning worship is an incredibly important role you can volunteer for as a member or friend of Amicable. Our United Church of Christ conference has studied church practices over many years and concluded that a person visiting a church for the first time typically decides in the first 30 seconds of being in the building whether they will come back again. Ensuring they are acknowledged, warmly welcomed, and made to feel comfortable are integral to this conclusion leaning toward “yes!” at Amicable. There is a rotating list of Greeters that would love to see more volunteers added to the ranks. If volunteering for this role interests you, please reach out to Kristen Zeiser (Kristen.zeiser@gmail.com).
