MEMORIAL GIFTS - Consider a Contribution Toward an Amicable Fund

Would you like to make a financial gift to the church in memory of a loved one or in honor of someone special in your life? There are many ways to contribute to our shared memory, and a gift toward one of our endowment funds can be a meaningful way to acknowledge a person’s impact on our community. Did you know that we have 7 endowment funds to choose from where memorial gifts are often allocated?

The following wisdom on our 7 endowment funds comes from our treasurer, Roger Gauthier, and explains how the funds came to be and how the monies from each are used. Thank you to Roger for this information!

  • General Endowment Fund: Initiated in 1766, based on the gift of a parcel of land bequeathed by William Hall of Little Compton. It was set up as an investment fund in 1953. Yearly budgeted withdrawals are used to support general Operation Account expenses.

  • Berg Cemetery & Grounds Fund: Initiated in 2004, primarily by John & Virginia Berg. Yearly budgeted withdrawals are used to support the maintenance of church grounds and the Lake Road cemetery.

  • Chace Music Fund: Initiated in 1976, based on a gift in memory of William N Chace. Yearly budgeted withdrawals are used to support Operation Account music expenses.

  • Wilcox Bible Fund: Initiated in 1968, primarily via memorial donations to Carl Wilcox, Holder Wilcox, and Holder Wilcox Jr. Yearly budgeted withdrawals are used to purchase and provide bibles to Sunday School and Youth Group children.

  • Missions & Outreach Fund: Initiated in 1971, based on a gift from Mabel Wilkinson. Yearly budgeted withdrawals are used to support Benevolence Account missions.

  • Wilcox & Wilkinson Sunday School Fund: Initiated in 1955, based on gifts in memory of Carl Merrill Wilcox, Emily Wilcox, a gift from Mabel Wilkinson, and a bequest from Ursilla Wilcox. Yearly budgeted withdrawals are used to support general Faith Formation Account Sunday School expenses.

  • Garey Scholarship Fund: Initiated in 1982, based on a gift from Carl Gary in memory of his sister Doris Garey. Yearly budgeted withdrawals are used to provide scholarship gifts primarily to Youth Group young adults pursuing higher education and/or professional studies.

If you are making a memorial donation and would like your gift to go to a particular fund, please let us know when making your donation.

BECOME A SUNDAY MORNING GREETER

Greeting friends and new faces at our sanctuary doors at the start of Sunday morning worship is an incredibly important role you can volunteer for as a member or friend of Amicable. Our United Church of Christ conference has studied church practices over many years and concluded that a person visiting a church for the first time typically decides in the first 30 seconds of being in the building whether they will come back again. Ensuring they are acknowledged, warmly welcomed, and made to feel comfortable are integral to this conclusion leaning toward “yes!” at Amicable. There is a rotating list of Greeters that would love to see more volunteers added to the ranks. If volunteering for this role interests you, please reach out to Kristen Zeiser (Kristen.zeiser@gmail.com).
