MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR JAMES C. GONCALO – SATURDAY, MARCH 15, 2025, AT 3:00PM

James C. Goncalo, 83, of Tiverton, RI, passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 9, 2025. James is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kim, his three children, James, Jessica and Jillian Goncalo and his first granddaughter and namesake, Marloe James Kinnane. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey P. Goncalo. We take comfort in knowing they are reunited once again.

 

The Celebration of Life for James will take place on Saturday, March 15th at Amicable Congregational Church on 3736 Main Road, Tiverton, RI 02878. Open respects will take place at 3:00, followed by a church service at 4:00 and refreshments with a few of Jim's favorite things. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Forever Paws Animal Shelter in Fall River, MA or the Potter League for Animals in Middletown, RI in the spirit of Jim's love for his dogs and cats. LENT 2: REST IN GOD’S PROVISION - Sunday, March 16, 10AM, On-site & online via Facebook

Have you ever worked on your day off? Done all the chores even though you were sick? Had that feeling that if you didn’t take care of something it wouldn’t get done? Lent asks us to rest, and to trust in God’s provision, trust that what needs doing will get done. Though, maybe it won’t look the way we planned – can we trust that that’s okay, too?

 

BYO BROWN BAG LUNCH WITH REV. MADDIE
Tuesdays in Lent, 11:30AM -12:30 PM begins March 11- April 15 - Upper Hall; On-site only
Bring your own brown bag lunch to the church and enjoy conversation and community with Rev. Maddie. Come once or come every week, stay for a minute or a while, it would be lovely to connect with you! (If the Upper Hall is reserved by an outside group, we will gather in Rev. Maddie’s office)

 

GENTLE MORNING YOGA

Wednesdays in Lent at 10 AM beginning March 12 - April 16 - Upper Hall; On-site only

All are invited to join in this gentle morning practice suitable for all levels led by Rev. Maddie. Bring a yoga mat and any props you like to use. Please note that this class does not use hands-on assist. For those wondering: Yes, Rev. Maddie is a certified yoga teacher! She completed her 200 Level training with My Vinyasa Practice in Austin, TX.

 

WORSHIP SERVICES AND OTHER AMICABLE EVENT VIDEOS

Most of our Worship Services or special events are taped or live streamed and then stored on our Facebook page. We were notified that Facebook storage will be going away and no longer offered as a service. We do not have storage locally for all these videos so they will be deleted. Target date for deletion is in 90 days… sometime in mid-May. After the deletion we will only be allowed to store videos for 30 days then the oldest videos will be dropped to make room for new additions.

 

While there is time you can visit our Facebook page videos at (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064785936823&sk=videos) and if there is a video you would like to have you can download it to your computer to save for your own personal viewing later. Our videos go all the way back to 2014! There are many ways to download videos. Just search in Google and you will find directions.

​BECOME A SUNDAY MORNING GREETER

Greeting friends and new faces at our sanctuary doors at the start of Sunday morning worship is an incredibly important role you can volunteer for as a member or friend of Amicable. Our United Church of Christ conference has studied church practices over many years and concluded that a person visiting a church for the first time typically decides in the first 30 seconds of being in the building whether they will come back again. Ensuring they are acknowledged, warmly welcomed, and made to feel comfortable are integral to this conclusion leaning toward “yes!” at Amicable.

 

There is a rotating list of Greeters that would love to see more volunteers added to the ranks. If volunteering for this role interests you, please reach out to Kristen Zeiser (Kristen.zeiser@gmail.com).
